FREE SPEECH

Words!

I have depended on them

All of my life;

Like food!

A passing fare;

Another care  I wear

To pare and to parse

The simple moments of being.

Holding body and soul together

For the benefit of the other;

Love, heard or seen somewhere.

Tasted delight

To enchant and

To entice

The solitary experience into

The human circle.

But whose idea?

Whose vision?

Whose creation?

Whose fodder?

Whose nourishment?

Whose rumination?

Whose dainties?

Whose bread?

We chew on what we are fed

In our hearts and in our minds;

We wind around

The times of our feedings

Like farm animals being bred

For the pleasure of their master;

Pastured and pasteurized,

Our thoughts and our food and our words

Tame the feral forces within us.

Spirit is sacrificed for security;

Soul for sensation;

Freedom for fraternity.
