SOULESCAPE
Would that I could give you
The solitude that you need
To find the way
To your soul.
Or that your soul was
The source of your need or
The solitary object of your desire.
Would that you could give me
The life that I would seek
In the human circle;
Knowing full well in my heart
That my life lies
In the same solitude
You would tell me
That you need.
Yes, you lose your solitude
Talking to others about its loss
To the likes of my entertainment
Of the loss of my solitude to you.
I see and I hear your protests
To your own life, as well
I know how my visage and my voice
Impacts your life;
But I cannot retreat yet enough.
So though we share the same goal;
Soul escapes us both.

WORMED OVER.
It does not matter
How old I am;
How many times I have experienced it; or
How knowledgeable or prepared I am for it;
Each time that I am plunged into the depths
Of solitude,
I must find again
My God, alone.
Surely, there will come a time
When the experience will help me
To disengage from this life; but
Until then, I will cling
To what we all know is folly and
I will find myself
Over and over again a worm
Before all of those
Who are better at the game than I.

SERPENTS BLAME
You may wish me
To places outside yourself
Or to Hades or Hell or the like
But the heart of the life
That you protect so much
Is the place
Where your solitude will strike.

RUNNING JOKE
Run the other way when you see me;
It is the right and the proper thing to do
Because I too have come to think that way
When I begin to think of you.
Anathema!
Leper!
Unholy!
Unclean!
In the eyes and for the likes of
Most folk.
We all look the same on the inside;
And the outside we live is a joke.
