FISHERS OF MEN.
You are all the same to me
Thorns and whips and nails;
Something to suffer along the way
On the search for the Holy Grail;
Head winds and updrafts
And eddies and cascades
As I struggle to learn to sail
To float on the currents
Of the unseen darkness
Like a blind man
Reading by Braille;
Lost except for a compass within
A longing for return to good port;
Looking at the trip as a serious journey
Than rather a catch or a sport;
The water is the call of the spirit and the deep
The wind is the portent of change
My soul is a refuge from the lure of the senses
And a world that will always be strange.

NOW POOR.
There is so little to which to cling
In a world which can only sing a dirge;
Each moment passing away,
Watching time pay for itself,
The soul is purged of tomorrow
And finds only an impoverished present
That belongs to eternity.
My past sins would singe
The surface of that vision
To fix it here;
And only the thought of love
Can ignite the fire of being alive within.

KNOCK KNEES
Kids knock me out!
They do just what they please;
They do the things they have to do to be
With joy, simplicity and ease;
And I am humbled by their charm
And driven to my knees.

PLEASED TO BIND
Why do I love the thought of you?
Why do you so much my poor heart please?
You humble who I might think that I am,
You bring me to my knees.
God is such an eternal lover;
You are the penultimate kind;
We are indelibly written together;
God did us together bind.

The Living God needs us to accept our solitary journey and cross
In order to continue His life today,
The life and redemptive power of His Christ.
